The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony was significant, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction hints that the team could be designing a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
